Call to Worship:+

L: So many times we are tempted to be boastful and proud, trying to outdo others in our piety. We are called to be humble in God’s sight.
P: We tend to look at those who have power in the community and who lord it over us.
L: You don’t need to do that. All that God wants is your faithfulness.
P: We are grateful because God is so forgiving with us.
L: Rejoice! God’s love is poured over you this day and all days, to nourish and to heal your lives.
P: Gracious God, thank you for being so patient with us and for giving us second chances. Be with us today as we listen with our ears and our hearts for your healing words. AMEN.

Music:                         Come and Find the Quiet Center        FWS2128

Opening Prayer:+
God of gentle, loving guidance, who brought the Israelites into a new land, filled with new hope and promise: Be with us today, opening our hearts and spirits to an awareness of your abiding love and presence with us. Help us to place our trust solely in you; for we ask this in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.

Psalter Reading:                    Psalm 90: 1-6, 13-17

Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
    or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
    from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

You turn us[b] back to dust, and say, “Turn back, you mortals.”
For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night.

You sweep them away; they are like a dream,
    like grass that is renewed in the morning;
in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
    in the evening it fades and withers.

13 Turn, O Lord! How long?  Have compassion on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
    so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad as many days as you have afflicted us,
    and as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your work be manifest to your servants,
    and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
    and prosper for us the work of our hands—
    O prosper the work of our hands!

Reading of the Old Testament:          Joshua 3:7-17

Reading of the Epistle:                       1 Thessalonians 2:9-13

Hymn:                         Time Now to Gather                 FWS2265

Reading of the Gospel:                       Matthew 22:1-12

This is the word of God for the people of God.

Thanks be to God.

Message:

Response to the Word:         The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life

everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of Concerns and Joys:+

Holy Communion:

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be they name.  Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
